326 (Mitsuru Nakamura)
Mr. Mitsuru Nakamura (better known by art fans around the world as "326") speaks for an entire generation of Japanese with his immediately recognizable art and poetry. His work is colorful and super kawaii (Japanese for "cute," but look closer and you will see so much else. Organs (internal and sexual), hide within stuffed animals and become backdrops for worlds of happy creatures. Flesh and the mechanical meld unexpectedly. Inanimate objects are anthropomorphized. Here and there, scattered among benign happy creatures, lurk darker ones, their faces contorted in sadness or anger.
His work has been covered by The New York Times. He has revamped the entire PR campaign for a Japanese TV network, designed the art for the popular video game Gitaroo Man, and a whole new generation of new fans is being raised with 326's art and poetry though his books like "You're My Mommy. Letters from a Baby to his Mom."
