Susumu Uchida
Mr. Susumu Uchida was born in 1957 in Shizuoka, Japan and spent his childhood in the fishing town of Ito Arai. Graduating with a degree in Fine Arts and Design from Nippon University, he worked at advertising agency ADK for years before becoming a freelance illustrator. In addition to being well known for his magazine cover portraits, he has done many advertising campaigns, movie posters, architectural projects, and more. His dynamic compositions and gracious colors outstrip reality and are utterly captivating. His personal passion, however, is painting fish. Not only is he an avid fisherman himself, in Japan he is considered by the publishing and fishing industries to be THE artist to go to for accurate depictions. Mr. Uchida's is the only artwork by a Japanese artist possessed by the Fly Fishing Museum in the State of Montana, U.S.A.. Current projects include urban redevelopment illustrations for Akihabara and teaching art to students who travel a great distance to learn at Mr. Uchida's art school in Shizuoka.
