Aya Nakaishi
"I think my sensitivity comes from my identity as a Japanese, and that influences the way I view and perceive different cultures in the States. This is reflected in my works, which are a mixture of reality and fiction. It's kind of like a fairy tale," says Ms. Nakaishi. "I remember the feeling of getting pulled into stories that my parents read to me as a child and I know those memories have a very strong influence on my contemporary works." Ms. Nakaishi lives and works in Los Angeles.
